To better accommodate the need for more track time here is the new Multi-Championship Race Format for the Individual Championship Series
(This estimate assumes 48 drivers competing on an 8 Lane Track.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: The individual event is open to both car classes legal for the Quarrel (Quarrel and VHORS cars). However the INDIVIDUAL event will be limited to 9 tooth pinion gears!
As of 2009 there are now 3 Championships during the Individual Event.
(1) Major: Overall Quarrel Individual Champion
(2) Minor: Quarrel Semi Championship
(3) Minor: Quarrel Consi Championship
Projected Individual Event Routine:
The day starts off with 1 minute fast lap qualifying heats on the “Jr”
The TOP 4 Qualifiers receive a “Bye” into the Individual Championship
Semi’s
The remaining 44 drivers will compete in the Consi (4) the TOP 3 finishing drivers from EACH Consi will move up into a Semi.
The 32 drivers than do not qualify for the Semi’s will compete in a Last Chance Consi Championship These 32 drivers will compete as groups of 16, running 2 minutes on each of the 8 lanes. The overall TOP 3 drivers between the combined heats of 32 drivers will receive trophies for the Consi Championship. The Last Chance Consi Championship winner will move up to the Individual A-Main and be awarded last lane choice
The semis will consist of the 4 top qualifiers and the 12 move up drivers from the Consi heats.
The winner of each semi moves automatically to the A-Main. The Semi winner with the most laps gets 1st lane choice, the other semi winner gets second lane choice. – The next 4 highest lap totals, from both semi’s combined, will move to the A-Main and get the next 4 lane choices respectively.
The 10 semi drivers that do not qualify for the A-Main will compete in a Last Chance Semi Championship. The TOP 3 drivers overall will receive trophies for the Last Chance Semi Championship. The winner of the Last Chance Semi Championship will move up to the Individual A-Main and be awarded the 7th lane choice.
So now that we are all confused here is what the A-Main will look like; by lane choice.
1st Choice: Winner of a Semi Heat with most laps
2nd Choice: Winner of the other Semi Heat
3rd Choice: Non-winning semi driver with most laps
4th Choice: Non-winning semi driver with 2nd most laps
5th Choice: Non-winning semi driver with 3rd most laps
6th Choice: Non-winning semi driver with 4th most laps
7th Choice: Winner of the Last Chance Semi Championship
8th Choice: Winner of the Last Chance Consi Championship
All races are to be Race to the Line format. Least total time will be the tie-breaker for tied lap counts. All races are to be European Rotation. Individual Tech will be Thursday night – Cars will be impounded until qualifying Friday morning.
There will be a 45 min practice session to prepare drivers and clean the track. This practice will be with non-impounded cars. 2 minutes on, 1 minute driver change. This will give all 48 drivers a minimum of 4 minutes.
Drivers Time on each lane:
Qualifying: 1 min qualifying heat – 30 sec for next driver to hook up
Consi Heats are 3 minute per lane
Semi Heats are 4 minutes per lane
Consi Championship Heats are 2 minutes per lane
Semi Championship Heats are 2 minutes per lane
A-Main is 5 Minutes per lane.
So in a perfect world the Individual Event Day Itinerary would look something like this:
[Assumes 48 competitors] [1 minute to change lanes, 5 minutes to start next major heat]
6:45am to 7:30am: Open (timed) Practice
7:30am to 7:45am: Brief Drivers meeting with cars returned to drivers.

Individual Event track time: Qualifying = 1 min, Consi’s = 24 min, Semi’s = 32 min, Last Chance = 16 min, A-Main = 40
Least amount of track time (Assumes you qualify 5th or worse, and do not move up to semi)
1+24+16 = 41min; Qualifying, Consi, Last Chance – Add 40 min if you make the A-Main (total = 81 min)
Most amount of track time (Assumes you qualify 5th or worse, move up to semi but are not in the Top 6
1+24+32+16 = 73 min; Qualifying, Consi, Semi, Last Chance – Add 40 min if you make the A-Main (total = 113 min)
If you qualify in the top 4 positions and make one of the top 6 seeds:
1+32 = 33 min; Qualifying, Semi – Add 40 for the A-Main (total = 73 min)
If you qualify in the top 4 position and do not make one of the top 6 seeds:
1-32+16 = 49 min; Qualifying, Semi, Last Chance – Add 40 min if you make the A-Main (total = 89 min)
The official date of the 2009 Quarrel is April 21st through April 25, 2009.
As previously stated we will be using the same car classification rules as the ECHORR Challenge*. Both Quarrel (Fray) class and VHORS SS will run combined as one class. Please see the ECHORR Challenge website for rule details for VHORS SS. The Quarrel VHORS SS car specifications are posted in our rules section. There are subtle differences in the ECHORR Challenge and our Quarrel VHORS SS rules. Please read each carefully. Each team must enter at least 12 and no more than 15 cars. Each team can enter any combination of the 2 classes of cars, i.e. 4 VHORS SS and 8 Quarrel cars.
Please check www.thequarrel.com for hotel and entertainment information. If you have any specific questions please use the info@thequarrel.com email address (new this year)
To avoid any confusion, both classes of cars may run the Zoomin Motorsports and RTHO weighted front ends. As soon as we see the new WizzardHO front ends we will let you know about it as well. The BRP weighted front end, made exclusively for the BRP Ferrari Dino, is illegal for use in either class. (Quarrel or VHORS SS). This is a deviation from the standard VHORS SS rules.
The schedule previously posted calls for the individual event to be run on Friday and the Team event on Saturday. Both events will have catered lunches. There will be a pizza party after the team event on Saturday. This may be reversed depending on the final race format of the “Best of the Rest” championship.
I have decided to expand the individual event so that more racers can participate throughout the entire event day, There will be the usual fast lap qualifying runs, consi heats, semi’s and main events. However those who have the misfortune of not making a move up will be able to compete in the “Best of the Rest” Championship. This Best of the Rest racing format is currently under development and discussion. The details will be posted here and in our forums section. Please check back often for additional information.
We will have the same tracks as last year plus the addition of 2 more tracks:
The Red, Blue, and Yellow tracks will be here again with no changes. The Green track has had the drivers’ panels reversed and we have eliminated the blind spot in the sweeper from all lanes.

The first new track is the 4 lane Bowman or Gold track, is an over/under version of the track formerly known as Dragons Tail. We think you will find it fun and challenging.

The second new track is an 8 lane Bowman modeled after my favorite track, The Roval. This Roval “Jr.” is slightly smaller than its namesake, has no squeeze lanes, is configured a little differently to help with marshalling and it will be banked slightly more than papa.

This track is currently scheduled to be used for the individual primary event only but it will be used as a team event track if the number of entrants requires it. If used for the team event the middle 4 lanes will be used.
Dan Luna will again offer his “Original” Champion Raceway to the field of race venues if required. We will use Champion Raceway before using the 8 lane for the Team Event.

If another “Fray” style track is required this will be the one.

There have been a few requests from the drivers that have to work on Saturday that the team event be rescheduled back to Friday, which would then schedule the individual event for Saturday. For 2008 I have no issues with reverting to the previous years scheduling. However all those drivers have agreed to the scheduling change of Team Racing on Saturday for 2009. Thank you for your cooperation.
There have been rumors of a major date change for the 2009 event. These rumors are absolutely true. In cooperation with ECHORR we have decided to move our date to earlier in the year. Although no date has yet been formalized we anticipate the date to be within the months of February through May. An absolute date will be announced at this year’s event. The reasons for this change is primarily twofold, (1) Simple economics, there are several teams that have stated that the increase cost in traveling to the Fray will be excessive and have asked us to host an event that is more within their travel range and (2) we simply want to have less of a date conflict with the ECHORR Challenge. This will allow primarily Quarrel teams to travel to that fine event, as well as, East Coast teams to come to the Quarrel.
The 2009 Quarrel will run a combined class of race cars. For 2009 we will allow Quarrel Cars and VHORS SS cars to compete as one combined class. Each car entered must be declared as to its being a Quarrel car or VHORS SS, as they will be marked differently
Due to a set of bizarre circumstances the venue for the 2008 Quarrel has changed to the Main Street Mall (2nd floor) in Oconomowoc, WI. This means that the hotels, things to do and places to go will be the same as last year It also means that our event sponsors will not change and that the same discounts will apply. While Jansen Family Park will be a backup location for this year’s event and it may yet host a Quarrel in future years, the 2008 Quarrel will be held at Lake Country Scale Auto Racing Club in their permanent location on the 2nd floor of the Oconomowoc Main Street Mall.
The Main Street Mall is located at 24 S Main Street, Oconomowoc, WI. Lake Country Scale Auto Racing Club will be this years host and they are located on the 2nd floor of the mall. The Quarrel is now more conveniently located, has full time AC, and the 1st floor of the mall has Scharnell’s Deli and the Cornerstone Pub and Eatery for you culinary convenience.
With this change in venue there will be a change in the entry fee. The entry will be lowered to $125.00 per team, includes entry into the team and individual event. If you wish to come and race in the individual event only, the entry fee for that is $25.00. (No food is included in the entry fees.
This year there are two event hotels: (see www.thequarrel.com for maps and details)
The team event luncheon will again be catered by Qdoba. The Banquet is tentatively scheduled for the Steakfire Restaurant and Lounge in Watertown, WI.
There are some new things to do this year, check out the website (www.thequarrel.com) for those details as well.
The trophies will be as stated in the first announcement and the supplier of all things HO will again be Slot Pro Speedway.
Please see pictures of the new trophies in the pictures section of the event website.
There are several advantages to the Main Street Mall Location:
Due to scheduling issues with the construction of the 8 Lane raceway - The 8 lane track MAY not be done in time for the event, our new showcase track, Oconomowoc Mountain Raceway, will be used for the 2008 individual. The following tracks are guaranteed to be done or are already here.
Tracks guaranteed available if required
The space is being provided by Lake Country Scale Auto Racing Club. www.hoslotnirvana.com / www.lakecountryslots.com / www.lcsarc.org
We at the Quarrel hope all of you have had a safe and wonderful holiday season.

QIR may not be completed in time so Jansen Raceway will be used if required for the team event.
If more than 12 teams enter, Dan Luna will supply the original Champion Raceway as the final track.
New “Indy” Style Qualifying format for the Quarrels’ Individual Event
There will be a new qualifying format for the individual event starting with the 2008 Quarrel.
Drivers will now qualify for the Individual Event with a 3 lap average qualifying run. Drivers will get a 4 lap run, 1 warm up (to get up to speed) and then 3 more. The average lap time of the last 3 laps will determine race heat position. Drivers can waive off the attempt once, if needed. However – during an official attempt the clock keeps running even if you spin out or come off and have to be marshaled back in, so drive fast but stay in…. When you qualify is determined by the reverse finishing order of the previous year’s Individual event. If you weren’t here last year, you will qualify ahead of those who were here.
